The country, El Salvador, maybe able to slingshot itself out of economic catastrophe thanks to the Bitcoin protocol which provides a decentralised network of nodes and miners which confirm and validate newly generated Bitcoin and transaction but, it's not popular with everyone...
They're now using their geothermal resources generated by Volcanoes
Below is the Bitcoin white paper.
I'm not Salvadorian, so I can't know for sure, my theory is that the reason as to why there's so much anger now around Bitcoin in El Salvador is because it was forced upon them, Bitcoin is money for the people developed not by a Government or Organisation, but by an anonymous coder known only as Satoshi. The people of El Salvador believe this is a bad thing, maybe because a lot of them don't understand the potential of the economic good it could do to a country that has suffered decade after decade of financial ruin.
As the President says, "Bitcoin cannot be hacked." and it's true, Bitcoin cannot be hacked because it's decentralised which means there is no central point of failure or attack, nodes can come and go and hackers can hack, but the network is provably very secure.
