Exploitation of choice.

Everyone has a phone, the problem is the choice is limited: Apple or Google. Take your pick, that’s all there is. Sure, there’s more variety with android phones and only a limited selection of models with Apple 🍎

On one hand Apple is a lot more secure than Android with carefully vetting each app before it is published on the App Store and the Google Play Store have yet to catch up with the security standards, BUT… you can *root your own OS onto an Android phone, which you currently cannot do with Apple, so while you are free to choose the operating system with Android unless you download all your apps from F-Droid it’s very likely you’ll download some malware poised to take over your digital self (socials, banking, contacts, emails, location) and use it against you.

It doesn’t help that Lithuania found censorship tools in Xiaomi and Huawei devices, even though Huawei claims it’s compliant with the laws of the countries they operate in. Germany’s regulator has also launched an investigative enquiry into the security of the phones made by Chinese firms. It really leaves only two viable choices, Samsung (South Korea) or Apple (USA) though both are surly manufactured in Mainland China.

It is time for a 3rd competitor. One that is as secure as Apple with the added bonus of trying to improve privacy with their new anti-app tracking rules, and as open as Android.
